Job summary

Auckland Council’s Pools and Leisure team is hiring a Pool Lifeguard – Team Member for a permanent part-time position (32 hours per week). You’ll help keep pools safe, assist the public, and develop skills across aquatic programs and customer service.

Training is provided, with a two-week program at West Wave (8am–4pm), and coverage includes additional learning in fitness, Learn-to-Swim, and customer support. Applications close 30 October 2026.

Qualifications

• Must pass the pool lifeguard swim test (200m, sidestroke, breaststroke, object retrieval, treading water).
• Current PLPC or willingness to complete required training and certification.
• Current First Aid certificate, or willingness to obtain it.
• Strong communication and customer-service skills with a safety-focused approach.
• Ability to work well as part of a team and follow safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Monitor pool areas and maintain a safe environment for customers.
• Respond to incidents and emergencies following safety procedures.
• Provide friendly, professional customer service and assist visitors.
• Keep facilities clean, tidy and welcoming and ensure equipment is safe and ready to use.
• Support programmes, promote services and contribute to a positive team environment.
