Job summary

Kāinga Ora - Homes and Communities is seeking an experienced Platform Lead (Data) to own performance, delivery, and continuous improvement of our data technology platforms in New Zealand.

You will champion modern platform engineering, automation, and DevOps practices across the organisation, lead a high-performing DevOps team, and shape platform strategy to deliver secure, scalable services aligned with business needs.

• Significant experience in platform engineering, DevOps, and operational delivery.
• Proven ability to lead platform engineering and DevOps teams to deliver secure, reliable, scalable, business-focused platform services.
• Ability to translate business strategy into clear platform roadmaps, delivery plans, and measurable outcomes.

Kāinga Ora is looking for an experienced and passionate Platform Lead to take ownership of the performance, delivery, and continuous improvement of our Data technology platforms. As Platform Lead (Data) your role will be to champion modern platform engineering, automation, and DevOps best practices across Kāinga Ora.

The Platform Lead (Data) role encompasses ensuring the delivery of secure, reliable, scalable, and resilient platform services. Driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance platform performance, efficiency, and user experience and providing clear accountability for platform outcomes, performance, and service quality are core focuses of this role.

The role also includes leading and developing a high-performing team of DevOps professionals.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape platform strategy, influence technology direction, converge our suite of platforms into a simple and future ready state, be part of a technology modernisation program powered by data and strong data foundations, and lead a talented team focused on delivering exceptional platform services.

Here’s What You Will Bring To The Role

• Significant experience working with relevant technology platforms i.e., Snowflake, Oracle, GIS, including experience in a platform, infrastructure, or DevOps leadership role
• A proven track record of leading platform engineering and DevOps teams to deliver secure, reliable, scalable, and business-focused platform services
• Demonstrated success in leading, coaching, and developing high-performing teams, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and servant leadership
• The ability to translate business strategy into clear platform roadmaps, delivery plans, and measurable outcomes, while effectively managing priorities, risks, and dependencies
• Strong stakeholder engagement, communication, and influencing skills, with experience driving operational excellence, IT service management (ITSM) practices, governance compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
