Job summary

Kāinga Ora - Homes and Communities is seeking an experienced Manager - Data Engineering to lead the delivery, operation and evolution of its enterprise data engineering capability. This role focuses on reliable, secure and scalable data platforms and analytics environments to support business outcomes across the organisation.

You will work closely with Technology Operations, Architecture & Security, Data, and business teams to drive modern data engineering practices and ensure data capabilities

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading and developing high performing data engineering teams in complex environments.
• Experience managing enterprise data platforms ensuring stability and performance.
• Strong knowledge of cloud-based data services, data pipelines and integration technologies.
• Expertise in governance, security, operational support and platform lifecycle management.
• Experience delivering secure, highly available data solutions for decision making.
• Understanding of operations, SLA management, incident response, disaster recovery and business continuity.
• Passion for continuous improvement and enabling data-driven outcomes.

We are looking for an experienced Manager - Data Engineering to lead the delivery, operation, and continuous evolution of Kāinga Ora’s enterprise data engineering capability. This is a strategic leadership role responsible for ensuring our data platforms, pipelines, and analytics environments are reliable, secure, scalable, and capable of delivering timely insights that support business outcomes across the organisation.

As a leader within our Digital IT function, you will drive the development of modern data engineering practices, oversee critical data platforms, and ensure our data capabilities continue to meet the growing needs of the business.

Working closely with Technology Operations, Architecture & Security, Data, Integration, and business teams, you will ensure data platforms are resilient, secure, cost-effective, and capable of supporting current and future organisational needs.

We're looking for a collaborative and technically strong leader who can combine strategic thinking with operational excellence. Your leadership and excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build effective partnerships across technical and business teams will be key to your success in this role.

• Proven experience leading and developing high performing data engineering and data platform teams within complex enterprise environments
• Experience managing enterprise data platforms and environments, ensuring stability, performance, and continuous improvement
• Strong knowledge of modern data platforms, data platforms operations, cloud-based data services, data pipelines, and data integration technologies
• Expertise in data engineering practices, governance, security, operational support, and platform lifecycle management
• Experience delivering highly available, secure, and scalable data solutions that support organisational decision-making\
• Strong understanding of operational management, service delivery, SLAs, incident management, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning
• A passion for continuous improvement and enabling data-driven outcomes.
