Job summary

North Island - Hawkes Bay is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to prepare, dispense and manage medications across Hawke's Bay Hospital, working with pharmacists and the clinical team to ensure timely and accurate supply.

You will pick and label medications, handle repacks, assist with prescription processing, maintain stock levels and support imprest services, with final checks possible for PACT certified staff.

Qualifications

• Pharmacy Technician qualification recognised by NZ Pharmaceutical Society.
• Knowledge of NZ pharmacy sector and PHARMAC/HML processes.
• PACT certification.
• Previous hospital pharmacy experience.
• Advanced IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Familiarity with ePharmacy (DXC).
• Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equitable outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Preparing, distributing and managing medications for inpatients, outpatients and ward imprest systems.
• Accurately picking and labelling medications and managing repacks.
• Assisting with prescription processing and maintaining stock levels.
• Supporting drug imprest services and communicating with wards regarding supply issues.
• If PACT certified, performing final accuracy checks on dispensed items.
• Working in a fast-paced hospital pharmacy environment to support patient care.

About the Role

As a Pharmacy Technician, youll be responsible for preparing, distributing and managing medications for inpatients, outpatients and ward imprest systems across Hawkes Bay Hospital. Youll work closely with pharmacists, technicians and the wider clinical team to ensure timely, accurate medication supply and excellent service delivery.

About you

You are a reliable and skilled Pharmacy Technician who is committed to accuracy, teamwork and patient safety. You will have:

• A Pharmacy Technician qualification recognised by the Pharmaceutical Society of New Zealand.
• Knowledge of the NZ pharmacy sector, relevant legislation and PHARMAC/HML processes.
• Strong knowledge of commonly used medicines, formulations and uses.
• Effective communication skills and a positive, problemsolving attitude.
• Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail.
• Competence with Microsoft Office applications.
• Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equitable outcomes for Māori and Pasifika.
• National Certificate in Pharmacy (Technician) Level 5 or above.
