Westpac New Zealand is seeking a skilled Lead Engineer for our Payments Technology team in Auckland. You will drive the development of payment systems, set technical direction, and mentor engineers across squads.

You will lead architectural decisions, champion modern development practices, and collaborate with product leadership to align with strategic goals, ensuring scalable and high-quality software delivery.

Qualifications

• At least 8 years of professional app development experience with 3+ years in leadership or senior roles.
• Experience with Java-based full stack development and microservices architecture.
• Proven ability to design and implement scalable systems and architectures.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical direction and bridge between technology leadership and squads.
• Mentor engineers, establish coding standards, and drive DevOps practices.
• Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to align with strategy and roadmap.
• Drive quality uplift initiatives and define technical roadmaps.
