Job summary

Westpac New Zealand Limited seeks a Lead Engineer to drive payments technology and lead a development team. You will guide technical direction, set coding and quality standards, and mentor engineers to deliver scalable payment solutions.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, shape the technology roadmap, and champion modern development practices to deliver resilient software efficiently. A strong leadership mindset and customer-focused delivery are essential.

Qualifications

8+ years of professional app development experience.
Minimum 3 years in a leadership or senior developer role.
Experience with Java-based full stack development and microservices architecture.
Proven track record designing and implementing systems architecture.

Responsibilities

Lead technical direction of application development and configuration.
Mentor a team of developers and drive quality uplift initiatives.
Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to align technical decisions with strategy.
Define coding, quality, and DevOps practices across squads.
