Qualifications

  • Current registration as an Early Childhood Teacher (essential).
  • Diploma of Teaching (ECE) or Bachelor of Teaching and Learning (Early Childhood) (essential).
  • Current First Aid Certificate.
  • Early Childhood teaching experience.
  • Sound knowledge of child development and the ability to convey this to others.

Responsibilities

  • Induct children and their whānau into the centre.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate programmes of experiences for children.
  • Maintain records of observations and progress of children, update parents/caregivers daily.
  • Model affirming behaviour and attitudes showing respect and acceptance of differences to all people.
  • Ensure that the Centre maintains a high standard of hygiene.
  • Show leadership that contributes to effective teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to work in different parts of the Centre and with others to meet staffing ratio needs.

We are excited to invite applications from qualified and registered early childhood kaiako to join our wonderful team at Ara Early Learning Centre.

Set within a picturesque garden setting on our city campus, our centre is known for providing high-quality care and education for children aged 6 months to 5 years. We are proud of our diverse community and our commitment to supporting tamariki to grow strong in their identity, language, and culture.

As kaiako based predominantly in the preschool you will:

  • Induct children and their whānau into the centre
  • Plan implement and evaluate programmes of experiences for children
  • Maintain records of observations and progress of children, update parents/caregivers daily
  • Model affirming behaviour and attitudes showing respect and acceptance of differences to all people
  • Ensure that the Centre maintains a high standard of hygiene
  • Show leadership that contributes to effective teaching and learning
  • Demonstrate flexibility to work in different parts of the Centre and to work with others to meet the staffing ratio needs of the Centre as required.

Hours of work are 65 hours per fortnight, rostered 31.5 hours per week plus 2 hours every second Wednesday evening for a team hui.

Ideally, you will bring:

  • Current registration as an Early Childhood Teacher (essential)
  • Diploma of Teaching (ECE) or Bachelor of Teaching and Learning (Early Childhood) (essential)
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Early Childhood teaching experience
  • Sound knowledge of child development and the ability to convey this to others
  • Proven ability to foster strong and respectful relationship with children and families/whānau from diverse backgrounds
  • The warmth, energy and personality to maintain a constant commitment to young children
  • A positive attitude, and confidence in using own initiative
