Job summary

North Island - Auckland South & East Auckland is seeking a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to join a leading tertiary hospital in Auckland Central. The role focuses on inpatient and community-integrated care for youths from 0 to 18, with a strong emphasis on recovery principles and biocultural practice.

The successful candidate will have FRANZCP or equivalent, extensive clinical experience, and a commitment to education and supervision of Registrars, House Officers and Students.

Qualifications

  • Experience and qualification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Excellent working knowledge of the NZ mental health field including relevant legislation.
  • 5 years clinical practice in Mental Health.
  • Commitment for biocultural practice.
  • Sound understanding and commitment to recovery principles.
  • High standard of verbal and written communication.
  • FRANZCP or Equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized assessment and treatment for children and adolescents within the unit.
  • Participate in professional development and supervision of Registrars, House Officers and Students.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support young people and families.
  • Contribute to recovery-oriented care and biocultural practice within the service.

Job description

The Child Psychiatrist contributes to the professional development and supervision of the supportive team of Registrars House Officers and Students.

The Child and Family Unit and adolescent mental health inpatient unit working with young people from 0 to 18 years old and their families.

They are one of only three specialist inpatient Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service units in New Zealand serving a very large region with strong commitment to collaboration between young person family staff and other services.

There is also a 3 bed Mother and Baby unit which is the second only in New Zealand. The Unit is situated in Auckland Central.

Roles do not come up often for SMO in this great service. We are looking for someone who is already registered or eligible for Locum Tenens and committed to being in New Zealand in January.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience and qualification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
