Job summary

Timaru Girls High School in Timaru is seeking a dependable Night Caregiver to supervise up to 60 boarding students in Years 9–13 during term time. The shift runs overnight on Thursday night into Friday morning, from 8:30pm to 8:45am.

You will help maintain a safe, settled environment, respond calmly to student needs, complete handovers with day staff, secure the boarding house, and assist with early morning routines. Police vetting and a current First Aid certificate are required or pursued.

Qualifications

• You will be responsible, approachable and comfortable working independently.
• You will also be able to respond calmly and confidently if an unexpected situation arises.
• The successful applicant must complete police vetting and hold, or be willing to obtain, a current First Aid certificate.

Responsibilities

• Completing a thorough handover with day staff
• Supporting students as they settle for the evening
• Carrying out bedtime checks from 10.10pm
• Responding to illness or other student needs overnight
• Securing the boarding house and setting alarms
• Sleeping on site while remaining available when required
• Providing occasional early wake-up calls
• Setting up the dining room before 7am
• Waking students and helping the morning run smoothly
• Responding appropriately to emergencies, including evacuations
