Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora invites applications for an Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeon at Christchurch Hospital. The role is a 1 year fixed-term, full-time position serving the Canterbury region within a busy tertiary trauma service.

Qualifications

  • Vocational registration or eligibility with the Medical Council of New Zealand in Orthopaedic Surgery.
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) or equivalent qualification.
  • Specialised training in orthopaedic trauma for tertiary hospital settings.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality acute trauma care in a busy tertiary setting.
  • Participate in the acute trauma roster and in inpatient/outpatient care.
  • Contribute to clinical governance and service development.
  • Supervise and mentor registrars and junior medical staff.

About the Role

As an Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeon at Christchurch Hospital,you will deliver high-quality acute trauma care within a busy tertiary settingserving the Canterbury region and the wider Te Waipounamu South Islandpopulation.

You will work alongside an experienced and collegial team oforthopaedic surgeons, managing a broad and complex trauma case mix. The roleincludes participation in the acute trauma roster, inpatient and outpatientcare, and involvement in clinical governance activities. You will play a keyrole in the supervision, education, and mentorship of registrars and juniormedical staff, contributing to our strong culture of surgical training andprofessional development.

This fixed-term position offers both clinical challenge andprofessional satisfaction, with flexibility around contract length for theright candidate.

About You

  • Vocationalregistration (or eligibility for vocational registration) with the MedicalCouncil of New Zealand in Orthopaedic Surgery
  • Fellowshipof the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) or equivalentrecognised qualification
  • Advancedtraining and proven experience in orthopaedic trauma, ideally within atertiary hospital setting
  • Acollaborative approach to multidisciplinary care and service development
  • Ademonstrated commitment to teaching, supervision, and ongoing professionaldevelopment
