Job summary

Genesis Energy NZ is seeking a mechanically skilled technician for the Tekapo Power Scheme. You’ll inspect, maintain and repair heavy industrial plant at Tekapo A and Tekapo B, ensuring safe, efficient operation. You will diagnose faults, perform preventative tasks, and update CMMS records.

A Mechanical Trade Certificate and strong safety discipline are essential. Role is full-time, with a 4on/2off/4on/4off dayshift roster.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience maintaining heavy industrial or mechanical plant.
  • Mechanical Trade Certificate or equivalent qualifications and experience.
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience maintaining rotating equipment, pumps, valves or pressure systems.
  • Experience with CMMS such as Maximo, SAP or similar.
  • Experience with permit-to-work and health and safety systems.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair mechanical assets across the Tekapo power stations to keep equipment safe and efficient.
  • Diagnose faults, implement corrective actions, and support preventative maintenance programs.
  • Use CMMS to log defects, time spent, and manage materials and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance documentation including procedures, PM work orders, drawings, and specs.
  • Support the asset management plan through assigned maintenance tasks, site checks, and enhancements.
  • Ensure safety, quality, and efficient use of resources in all work activities.

What you’ll do:

The Tekapo Power Scheme is an important asset to Genesis, generating electricity through two power stations: Tekapo A (30MW) and Tekapo B (160MW), with Tekapo B being the only power station in NZ that is completely surrounded by water, boasting views out to Aoraki Mount Cook.We have an excellent opportunity for someone with a mechanical trade background, looking for a new challenge with plenty of scope to grow.

Reporting to the Site Manager, your key responsibilities include:

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair mechanical assets across the Tekapo power stations, ensuring equipment operates safely and efficiently
  • Diagnose mechanical faults, implement corrective actions, and support preventative maintenance programs
  • Use the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to capture plant knowledge, log defects, record time spent on tasks, and manage materials and equipment
  • Maintain accurate maintenance documentation, including procedures, PM Work Orders, Job Plans, drawings, and technical specifications
  • Support the implementation of the asset management plan through assigned maintenance tasks, site checks, and enhancements
  • When undertaking all work activities ensure safety, quality and the efficient use of resources.

Please note that this is a full-time, permanent role. We operate on a 4on / 2off / 4on / 4off dayshift roster.

What you’ll need:

We are wanting someone that is flexible, adaptable and keen to learn as on the job training will be provided. To fit in with the team, you will be friendly, self-directed and a team player. There will be an expectation to do non-maintenance duties 1day/week as a backup for Operations once site competencies and familiarisation have been achieved.

  • Proven experience maintaining heavy industrial or mechanical plant within industries such as power generation, petrochemical, pulp and paper, mining, dairy, manufacturing or similar environments
  • Mechanical Trade Certificate or equivalent qualifications and experience
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
  • Experience maintaining rotating equipment, pumps, valves or pressure systems
  • Experience working with Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as Maximo, SAP or similar
  • Experience working within permit-to-work and health and safety systems
  • A full, clean New Zealand driver's licence.
