  • Up to $150,000 plus a vehicle, or depending on experience
  • Potential to progress into a broader General Manager position
About the Organisation

This established civil contractor delivers three waters and civil infrastructure projects for local authority and infrastructure clients. With a positive forward workload and plans to expand its field capability, the business is entering an important stage of growth.

Practical, agile and delivery focused, the company is now looking to strengthen its operational leadership and introduce greater consistency across project planning, resource coordination and field delivery.

The Role

This newly created Operations Manager position will take overall responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of civil construction projects across the business. Working closely with the business owner and wider management team, you will take ownership of projects following contract award. You will ensure the right people, plant, equipment, materials and resources are in place to deliver work safely, efficiently and profitably.

You will provide leadership across Engineers, Foremen and field crews while acting as the central point of coordination between project requirements and physical delivery.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing multiple three waters and civil infrastructure projects concurrently
  • Coordinating Engineers, Foremen, crews, plant, trucks, equipment and materials across projects
  • Maintaining visibility across current and upcoming workloads
  • Identifying resource constraints and delivery risks before they affect programmes
  • Supporting operational teams when projects encounter delivery challenges
  • Promoting safe working practices and proactive risk management
  • Monitoring labour, plant, material usage, productivity and project performance
  • Strengthening accountability and communication between project and field teams
  • Developing Foremen, Engineers and emerging leaders within the business
  • Improving operational systems without creating unnecessary administration
  • Supporting recruitment and workforce planning as field capability grows
Role Requirements

You will bring strong practical civil construction experience and the credibility to lead both field-based and professional staff. Ideally, you will have:

  • A strong background in three waters, drainage, pipelines, earthworks, utilities or broader civil infrastructure
  • Proven experience delivering physical works across multiple projects
  • Experience coordinating crews, plant, equipment, materials and other project resources
  • Strong knowledge of civil construction methodologies and site delivery requirements
  • Experience leading Foremen, Engineers, site teams or project delivery personnel
  • The ability to plan ahead while responding effectively to day-to-day construction challenges
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusted working relationships
  • A practical understanding of health, safety and environmental requirements in civil contracting
  • Commercial awareness covering project costs, budgets, margins and productivity
  • A track record of improving operational systems, processes or team capability

A relevant civil engineering or construction qualification would be advantageous, but strong practical experience is more important.

What’s in it for You?

This is an opportunity to step into a key leadership role where you can make a visible impact on how the business operates and grows. The package and opportunity include:

  • Indicative remuneration of up to $150,000 plus a vehicle depending on experience. We also welcome less experience candidates to apply who are eager to grow their career.
  • A newly created role with the scope to shape operational systems and responsibilities
  • Direct involvement with the business owner and management team
  • A positive pipeline of three waters and local authority infrastructure work
  • The opportunity to develop people and strengthen capability across field teams
  • Genuine influence over resource planning, productivity and project delivery
  • Potential progression into a broader General Manager role as the company grows
