Job summary

Placements24 seeks an experienced Operations Geologist to join the team in Queenstown, NZ. This role provides real-time geological support during drilling, ensuring accurate wellbore placement, formation evaluation, and safety.

You will collaborate with drillers, mud loggers, and logging engineers to interpret data and optimize drilling performance. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in Geology, 4+ years of field geology experience, and proficiency with well logs and geological software.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geology or a related earth science field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience as an operations geologist or in a similar wellsite geology role.
• Proficiency in interpreting various types of well logs (gamma ray, resistivity, sonic).
• Familiarity with geological software for well correlation and data visualization.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced field environment.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide geological guidance and support during drilling operations at the wellsite.
• Interpret well logs, core data, and cuttings to identify lithology, formation tops, and hydrocarbon presence.
• Correlate geological data with offset wells and regional studies to ensure accurate wellbore positioning.
• Advise on drilling parameters and formation evaluation techniques to optimize data acquisition.
• Identify and mitigate geological hazards such as abnormal pressures or lost circulation zones.
• Communicate geological updates and recommendations to the drilling team and management in Queenstown.
