Job summary

Ko Taku Reo is seeking a permanent, full-time New Zealand Sign Language Tutor to deliver high-quality NZSL instruction and Deaf cultural responsiveness programs to Deaf students, their whānau, and staff. Most interactions will occur via video calls to accommodate learners across NZ.

Applicants should hold a Deaf Studies qualification, be fluent in NZSL with SLPI Advanced or higher, and have experience in DHH or special education settings. A driver’s licence and reliable vehicle are preferred.

Qualifications

• Holds Deaf Studies Certificate or equivalent.
• Demonstrates deep understanding and personal experience with Deaf culture.
• NZSL proficiency with SLPI Advanced or higher.
• Respects diverse cultural backgrounds of students and families.
• Experience in DHH or special education settings.
• Knowledge of second language theories and NZSL linguistics.
• Has a current driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
• Willingness to work in a compassionate, learner-centered team.
• Able to engage in a broad, impactful role with freedom to make your mark.
• Supports a dynamic, development-oriented team environment.

Responsibilities

• Deliver one-on-one NZSL instruction and Deaf cultural responsiveness programs.
• Design and implement tailored NZSL learning programs and materials.
• Engage learners remotely via video calls to reach a wide geographic area.
• Collaborate with the education team to enhance NZSL skills and cultural awareness.
• Support Deaf students, their whānau and colleagues with high-quality education.
