Job summary

The Nurse Educator role at Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora will practice across the Wellington Emergency Department and the Wellington Crisis Resolution Service. You will provide education and training to increase staff skills, confidence and capability in caring for people presenting in mental health crisis.

Working with the MHAIDS Mental Health ED Team, you will develop and implement resources, assessments and sessions to meet practice and organisational needs, with 0.6 FTE in ED and 0.4 FTE

Qualifications

• Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand.
• Current practising certificate.
• Undergraduate or postgraduate programme in mental health nursing.
• Three years mental health nursing experience with crisis assessment, planning and care.
• Qualification in adult education or working towards this.
• Commitment to ongoing learning including senior PDRP.
• Understanding Te Tiriti o Waitangi in nursing practice.

Responsibilities

About the Role

The Nurse Educator rolepractices across both the Wellington Emergency Department (ED) and theWellington Crisis Resolution Service (CRS). In ED, the priority includesprovision of education and training to increase ED staff skills, confidence andcapability when working with people who are presenting with mental healthproblems/in crisis. Education and training will be provided to other staffacross the acute care continuum, alongside nurse educators in ED. Mental healthand addiction specific resources for staff and people presenting in crisis andtheir whānau will also be further developed and implemented. The role will workalongside and with the MHAIDS Mental Health ED Team. InCRS, the Nurse Educator role will work alongside the Speciality Clinical Nurseto enhance nursing care provided by CRS through assessing nurse's educationalneeds, provide clinical expertise in complex / challenging presentations andcomplete training needs assessments informed by practice and organisationalneeds, developing and conducting education sessions as required.We envisage that 0.6 FTE willbe working alongside the ED clinicians, and 0.4 FTE with the Wellington CRS.

About the Teams

TheMental Health Emergency Department Team consists of a Senior Medical Officer,Speciality Clinical Nurses and registered nurses who work with tāngata whaioraand their whānau who present to the Emergency Department with acute mentalhealth needs. The Team work collaboratively with ED colleagues and CommunityMental Health Teams.The WellingtonCrisis Resolution Service is a multidisciplinary group of mental healthprofessionals who work collaboratively to provide timely assessment andtreatment to individuals presenting with acute mental health needs in the WellingtonLocality. The service operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and assessespeople in a variety of settings. The Service provides culturally safeinterventions, and integrated support for tangatawhaiora and whanau.

About you

• Registration withthe Nursing Council of New Zealand.
• A currentpractising certificate.
• Completion of anundergraduate (leading to registration) or post graduate programme in mentalhealth nursing.
• Three yearsmental health nursing experience, with demonstrated proficiency in mentalhealth crisis assessment, formulation, planning and implementation of care.
• Relevantqualification in adult education or working towards this within agreedtimeframe.
• A personalcommitment to on-going learning and development including attainment /maintenance of senior PDRP.
• Demonstrates anunderstanding of the significance of and obligations under Te Tiriti oWaitangi, including how to apply Te Tiriti principles in a meaningful way inthe nursing role.
• Master's innursing or enrolment in same.
