Job description

Location: Wellington Regional Hospital or Hutt Hospital
Contract: Fixed Term (until September 2027), Part Time (0.6 FTE, Secondment)

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we're building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau-centred care, and excellence.

About the Role

Please note that this role is only available for current Health New Zealand / Te Whatu Ora staff. Any non-Te Whatu Ora applications will be declined.

The Nurse Educator role is a pivotal senior nursing role based in the Wellington Regional Heart and Lung Unit (Ward 6 South). The Heart & Lung Unit combines the Cardiothoracic Department and Cardiology Services. We have 40 beds, including step-down unit beds for post-operative patients and acute coronary care beds. This role is essential for maintaining nursing knowledge and standards of safe quality care. The Nurse Educator is responsible for facilitating training and education that develops the workforce competence and capability both within Cardiology and Cardiothoracics, and across the district. Practice development and change implementation are important aspects of the educator role as clinical and health care delivery context changes rapidly. Educators lead the implementation of nursing education, change and practice development across the services, supporting Capital, Coast & Hutt Valley strategic direction. This is achieved through developing, implementing and evaluating orientation, ongoing training, education programmes and resources. Training delivery occurs in both clinical and non-clinical settings. The NE provides professional and clinical nursing leadership, working with staff to meet quality and safety standards of care. This includes contributing to development of policies and procedures. The clinical component of the role is to provide expertise and role modelling by working with staff to teach, coach and demonstrate practice excellence. The NE works closely with nursing leadership and the Workforce and Practice Development Unit to support workforce development through Clinical Learning Experiences (pre-registration placements), the Supported First Year of Practice (SFYP), Professional Development Recognition Programme (PDRP) and Preceptor Programmes.

About you
  • You will be experienced in Nursing education
