Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora in Palmerston North invites an experienced Nurse Educator to join the Surgical Services and Women's Health teams, supporting SAPU and WASU with educational leadership. You will drive staff development, competency assessment and orientation to foster excellence in nursing practice.

You will collaborate with clinical leaders and multidisciplinary teams to advance evidence-based care, quality improvement and lifelong learning across services.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4–5 years nursing experience within the specialty.
• Current Annual Practising Certificate.
• Adult teaching certificate or plan to complete this or a similar qualification.
• Postgraduate Diploma or working towards completion within agreed timelines.
• Understand Te Tiriti o Waitangi and apply its principles in practice.
• Strong leadership, coaching and communication skills, with a passion for education and quality improvement.

Responsibilities

• Provide educational leadership across SAPU and WASU.
• Support professional development, competency assessment, orientation and ongoing staff education.
• Promote evidence-based practice, quality improvement and lifelong learning.
• Maintain a strong clinical presence and model excellence in surgical nursing assessment and treatment.
• Contribute to workforce development, succession planning and education programme development.
