Job summary

Ngāti Kuia is offering a paid Summer Internship Programme designed to provide meaningful work experience, personal growth, and deeper connections with the iwi and its aspirations. You will work with kaimahi across projects that support the iwi and wider communities.

Throughout the programme you’ll build workplace skills, expand professional networks, and learn about the kaupapa and priorities of Ngāti Kuia while exploring career pathways and whakapapa connections.

Job description

Our Summer Internship Programme is designed to provide meaningful, paid work experience while creating opportunities for personal growth, career exploration, and stronger connections with Ngāti Kuia, our people, and our aspirations for the future.

As an intern, you will have the opportunity to gain practical, hands‑on experience within Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Kuia, working alongside experienced kaimahi on a range of projects, programmes, and initiatives that make a positive difference for our iwi and wider communities. Whether you are considering future study, exploring career pathways, or looking to strengthen your connection to your whakapapa, this internship offers a supportive environment to learn, contribute, and grow.

Throughout the programme, interns will develop valuable workplace skills, build professional networks, gain insight into the operations of an iwi organisation, and learn more about the kaupapa, values, and strategic priorities of Ngāti Kuia.

Business & Enterprise Intern

Gain hands‑on experience in business, marketing, horticulture and iwi enterprise.

This internship is perfect for someone who’s curious about how iwi businesses operate and keen to learn and expand their existing knowledge and skill set in this space. You’ll gain experience across the Ngāti Kuia nursery and Kānuka facility, while building your confidence in business operations, marketing and kaupapa Māori enterprise.

Help bring culture, identity and whānau engagement initiatives to life.

This internship is perfect for someone who is passionate about te ao Māori, with a strong connection to their Ngāti Kuiatanga, and eager to gain hands‑on experience supporting kaupapa that make a real difference for whānau, tamariki and rangatahi. You’ll work alongside experienced kaimahi across a range of cultural, community and engagement initiatives while building valuable skills in research, event coordination, programme delivery and iwi development.

Support programmes that empower whānau through education, wellbeing and opportunity.

This internship is perfect for someone who is passionate about supporting whānau success and wants to make a positive impact in their community. You’ll gain hands‑on experience across hauora, education, rangatahi development and whānau engagement initiatives, while building your confidence in programme delivery, communications, administration and community development.

Develop teaching and leadership skills while helping tamariki build confidence in the water.

This internship is perfect for someone who loves working with tamariki, is confident in te reo Māori, and wants to make a positive impact through teaching, leadership and whānau engagement. You’ll play an important role in delivering Te Ara o Hinepoupou, the Ngāti Kuia rumaki reo swim school programme, while building valuable skills in education, programme delivery, health and safety, and community development.
