Job summary

Rocket Lab in Auckland seeks an motivated intern to join the Neutron Composite Structures team. You will help develop composite structure designs and manufacturing techniques for Neutron, contributing to real space technology projects.

This internship offers hands-on experience, mentorship from world-class engineers, exposure to rocket and spacecraft systems, and a pathway to future opportunities within Rocket Lab.

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in 3rd or 4th year of a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical, Mechatronics or Aerospace).
  • Mechanical Design – CAD as well as hand calcs.
  • Hands on manufacturing skills – metal machining, soldering.
  • Basic knowledge of harnessing and electrical signals.
  • Data processing of test results in Python or Matlab.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Passion for aerospace, space technology, and innovation.
  • Nice to have: knowledge of sensors.
  • Nice to have: part of a University Project team (eg FSAE, Rocketry Team, Rover Team).
  • Nice to have: previous internship or project experience in composite structures or aerospace.

Responsibilities

  • Support design, development, and manufacturing of primary and secondary composite structures including producing required documentation.
  • Support testing of primary and secondary composite structures including producing required documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineers and team members across multiple departments.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute innovative ideas.
  • Apply hands-on manufacturing skills to support prototype development.
