Job summary

Higgins is seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented Network Inspector to join our Hawke's Bay team. You will inspect local and national road networks to support safe, reliable transport and asset decisions.

You will collect data, identify defects, and provide evidence-based input to planning and maintenance teams while contributing to a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Experience in roading, civil construction, infrastructure or maintenance sectors.
  • Understanding of road maintenance and asset management.
  • Strong attention to detail in identifying defects and risks.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement.
  • Comfort using tablets, mobile tech and data systems.
  • Commitment to safety and quality.
  • Current New Zealand driver’s licence.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections across local and national road networks per contract and FIG.
  • Monitor network condition, safety and performance against Levels of Service.
  • Identify defects, hazards and non‑compliance; document accurately.
  • Collect and maintain inspection and asset data.
  • Support maintenance planning with condition assessments and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with clients and delivery teams for best-for-network outcomes.
  • Participate in incident response and after-hours duties as required.
  • Travel across Hawke's Bay network as needed.

Higgins is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Network Inspector to join our Hawke's Bay team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in maintaining the safety, reliability, and performance of both local and national road networks across the wider Hawke's Bay region.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you'll be responsible for carrying out network inspections, identifying defects and risks, and providing accurate, evidence-based information that supports asset management decisions. Working closely with clients, stakeholders, and operational teams, you'll help deliver quality outcomes while contributing to a strong culture of safety, continuous improvement and "Right First Time" delivery.

What you'll be doing
  • Conducting inspections across local and national road networks in accordance with contract requirements and the Fault Identification Guide (FIG)
  • Monitoring network condition, safety and performance against agreed Levels of Service
  • Identifying defects, hazards, risks and non-compliance issues and ensuring they are accurately recorded
  • Collecting, analysing and maintaining accurate inspection and asset data
  • Supporting maintenance planning and treatment decisions through condition assessments and technical recommendations
  • Working collaboratively with clients, stakeholders and delivery teams to achieve best-for-network outcomes
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and quality assurance activities
  • Participating in incident response activities and rostered after-hours duties when required
  • Undertaking travel throughout the wider Hawke's Bay network as required
What you'll bring
