Defence Technology Agency in Auckland seeks a Mine Warfare Clearance Diving Officer (MCDO) to lead a team of divers in explosive ordnance disposal and maritime security tasks. The role includes both above and below water operations, safety management, and advising on diving capabilities.

Key responsibilities involve training a dive team, managing diving operations, and providing expert advice. The position offers a competitive salary of up to $142,000, with benefits including subsidised accommodation, medical care, and access to gyms.

Competenze

• Minimum 18 years of age upon entry.
• No criminal convictions in the previous two years.
• Pass an Officer Selection Board.
• Pass the RNZN Diver Selection Board.
• Pass the Diver trade Multi‑Stage Fitness Test: Level 9.5 beep test, 30 press‑ups, 30 abdominal curls, 6 pull‑ups, and 400 m fin‑swim in no more than 8 min 30 s.
• Meet colour perception requirements, if applicable.
• Undergo strict citizenship and security clearance, including TSV security clearance.

About the role

As a Mine Warfare Clearance Diving Officer (MCDO), you will work both above and below water. You will lead a team of up to 10 divers in explosive ordnance disposal, maritime security and mine clearance tasks. You will manage the overall diving function, including safety management, and provide advice about diving capabilities while working ashore in a headquarters.

• Lead and train a dive team, ensuring their continued training, well‑being, career progression and equipment maintenance.
• Manage safety, plan and command dive operations.
• Serve in operational deployments to coalition missions and serve on diving support vessels.
• Provide expert advice and assistance to other Defence Force organisations.
• Maintain underwater skills through regular diving and physical training.
• Prepare reports, plans and projects related to diving operations.

Qualifications

• Minimum 18 years of age upon entry.
