Overview

As a Combat Systems Specialist (CSS) you work in a team to operate military radars and sonars, building a picture of the environment surrounding a warship. You locate, track and classify surface ships, submarines, aircraft and other contacts to inform action and engage threats using ship‑board and airborne weapons such as Phalanx CIWS, Typhoon, Mini‑Typhoon and remotely‑controlled weapon systems. You also direct maritime helicopters during search and rescue or anti‑submarine warfare operations.

Responsibilities
  • Operate military radar, sonar and sensor systems to detect, track and classify surface, subsurface and airborne contacts.
  • Maintain and operate the Combat Management System and weapon systems (Phalanx CIWS, Typhoon, Mini‑Typhoon).
  • Coordinate and direct maritime helicopter operations including search and rescue, anti‑submarine warfare and transport.
  • Engage identified threats to protect the ship and surrounding maritime assets.
  • Provide tactical intelligence to ship planners and mission commanders.

  • Minimum 3 years of secondary education and suitable qualifications for trade assessment.
  • Physically and medically fit for military duties worldwide.
