Lead Quality Improvement and Support Positive Outcomes Across Maternity Services
About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse or Midwife to join our team as the Maternity Quality and Safety Programme Coordinator on a fixed-term basis through to 31 March 2027.

This role is responsible for supporting maternity clinical quality and safety initiatives across South Canterbury, working closely with maternity practitioners, managers, and stakeholders to drive quality improvement, service development, and best practice. The position provides leadership and coordination for quality and risk management activities, ensuring staff have access to the tools, information, and support needed to deliver safe, high-quality maternity care.

Working collaboratively across hospital and community settings, you will coordinate clinical audits, contribute to regional improvement initiatives, support the development of policies and guidelines, analyse and communicate clinical data, and facilitate quality improvement projects that improve outcomes for women, babies, and whānau. You'll also play a key role in supporting consumer engagement and ensuring feedback informs service improvements.

This is a unique opportunity to influence maternity services at a strategic level while contributing to meaningful improvements in the quality and safety of care delivered across South Canterbury.

The role sits within the Quality Team and works closely with Maternity Services, hospital and community practitioners, governance groups, and multidisciplinary teams. About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Registration as a Registered Nurse or Midwife with a current Annual Practising Certificate
  • Extensive nursing or midwifery experience
  • A strong interest in quality improvement, patient safety, and service development
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Strong data analysis, reporting, and problem-solving abilities
  • Experience facilitating change and supporting quality improvement initiatives
  • Skills in project management and continuous quality improvement methodologies
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and improving equitable health outcomes for Māori
  • Postgraduate nursing, midwifery, quality, or risk management qualifications, or working towards one
  • Knowledge of quality and accreditation standards
  • Experience with clinical audit, quality improvement tools, and data analysis

This role is covered by the terms and conditions of the relevant collective agreement and salary will be in accordance with the applicable pay scale and dependent on experience.
