Job summary

Health New Zealand (Te Whatu Ora) seeks a Forensic Pathologist to join Christchurch services. The role supports coroners, police, families and the courts with autopsy services, reports and expert testimony. Practice involves a diverse caseload and teaching opportunities with Otago University.

The unit emphasises collaboration across pathology disciplines and external agencies, in a modern, well-equipped environment at Christchurch Hospital.

Qualifications

• FRCPA in Forensic Pathology or international equivalent.
• Eligibility for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies.
• Strong communication skills, including report writing and court presentation.

Responsibilities

• Perform post-mortem examinations as directed by the Coroner.
• Provide detailed autopsy reports and expert opinion in court when required.
• Teach and supervise forensic pathology trainees and medical students.
• Engage with University of Otago and other partners to advance practice.
