Job summary

Jobspace in Southland is seeking an Assistant Drainlayer for full-time civil projects. You will work alongside certified drainlayers to install, repair, and maintain underground drainage systems across residential, commercial, and civil sites.

This role offers mentorship to learn the trade and develop practical skills in a busy drainage team. We provide a hands-on learning environment with experienced mentors, opportunities to upskill, and a supportive team culture.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in drainage or civil trades.
• Strong physical fitness and ability to perform heavy manual handling.
• Reliable, punctual and eager to learn the drainlaying trade.
• Valid driver’s license; WTR endorsements preferred (or willing to obtain).

Responsibilities

• Assist qualified drainlayers with laying stormwater, wastewater, and sewer pipes.
• Dig trenches, prepare bedding materials, and backfill as directed.
• Move and handle drainage pipes, fittings, manholes, and materials on site.
• Set up laser levels, trench shoring, and safety equipment under supervision.
• Operate hand and power tools safely and keep the site clean and hazards-free.
• Assist with traffic management setup and site environmental controls.
• Follow health and safety procedures, including trench safety and confined spaces.
