Job summary

Environment Southland is seeking an Assistant Drainlayer's Helper in Southland for a full-time role. You will work alongside certified drainlayers to install, repair, and maintain underground drainage systems across residential, commercial, and civil projects.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years relevant experience in drainage work.
• Strong physical fitness for heavy manual handling.
• Willingness to learn the drainlaying trade.
• Valid driver’s license; WTR endorsements preferred.
• Permanent full-time with 30–60 hours/week guaranteed.

Responsibilities

• Assist qualified drainlayers with laying stormwater, wastewater, and sewer pipes.
• Dig trenches, prepare bedding materials, and backfill trenches by hand or assist machine operators.
• Move and handle drainage pipes, fittings, manholes, and connection materials on site.
• Set up laser levels, trench shoring, and safety equipment under supervision.
• Operate hand and power tools safely (e.g., compactors, saws).
• Keep the work area clean, organized, and hazard-free at all times.
• Assist with traffic management setup and site environmental controls where required.
• Follow all health and safety procedures, including trench safety and confined space protocols.
