Job summary

Hardygroup is seeking an Assistant Drainlayer in Southland for full-time civil projects. You will work alongside certified drainlayers on installing, repairing, and maintaining underground drainage systems across residential, commercial, and civil infrastructure.

This hands-on role offers mentorship to learn the trade, with weekly pay, a competitive hourly rate of 28–32 NZD, guaranteed 30 hours per week and up to 60 hours. A strong work ethic and a valid driver's license are required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience; qualification preferred but not compulsory.
• Strong physical fitness and ability to perform heavy manual handling.
• Willingness to learn the drainlaying trade within a close-knit team.
• Valid driver's license; WTR endorsements preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist qualified drainlayers with laying stormwater, wastewater, and sewer pipes.
• Dig trenches and prepare bedding materials, backfill as directed.
• Move and handle pipes, fittings, manholes, and connectors on site.
• Set up laser levels, trench shoring, and safety equipment.
• Operate hand and power tools safely on site.
• Keep the work area tidy and hazard-free.
• Assist with traffic management and environmental controls when needed.
• Follow health and safety procedures including trench safety and confined space protocols.
