Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora in Auckland seeks a Medical Laboratory Technician for the Newborn Metabolic Screening section within Specialist Chemical Pathology. The role involves pre-analytical sorting, card punching, analytical work, and general administrative duties.

You must hold current registration and an Annual Practising Certificate with the Medical Sciences Council of NZ. The position is full-time, with a rotating schedule (Mon–Sun) and opportunities to work across related screening

Qualifications

  About the Role

  This position is in the Newborn Screening section of the Specialist Chemical Pathology department. The department encompasses Special Biochemistry, Endocrinology, Trace Metals and Chromatography and provides laboratory services for 3 national programmes (Bowel Screening, Newborn Screening and Antenatal Screening). Whilst this role is based primarily in the Newborn Screening area there may also be a requirement to work in other sections of the department. Primary tasks for the role will include pre-analytical sorting and checking of cards, punching of cards, analytical work and general admin work. The position is full time, Monday to Sunday.   About you

  The section is busy with strict turnaround time and quality requirements. Applicants will need to possess excellent organisational, computer and communication skills and be flexible with working hours. The role requires a person with a skillset including attention to detail, good time management, accuracy and the ability to work as part of a team. Experience with both automated and manual methodologies including immunoassay would be advantageous. You must have a current annual practicing certificate and be registered as a Medical Laboratory Technician with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand.
