Responsibilities

• Manage and execute mechanical engineering tasks from site preparation to commissioning.
• Supervise installation, alignment, and testing of mechanical equipment (pumps, conveyors, heavy machinery).
• Ensure compliance with design specs, standards, and safety regulations (OHS Act).
• Coordinate with site personnel, contractors and suppliers to progress projects.
• Monitor site activities and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Participate in site inspections, progress meetings and safety audits.
• Manage documentation (as‑built drawings, test reports, completion certificates).
• Assist in commissioning plans and procedures; support maintenance with technical expertise.

About the Role

Our client, a key player in the mining and infrastructure sector, is seeking a diligent Mechanical Engineer to oversee project execution activities in Queenstown, Eastern Cape . This role is essential for ensuring the successful implementation of mechanical aspects of various capital projects, focusing on plant and equipment installation, commissioning, and maintenance. The engineer will be responsible for coordinating site activities, ensuring adherence to project specifications, safety standards, and timelines. This is a hands‑on role requiring strong technical and operational knowledge within a challenging industrial environment. We are looking for a pragmatic and safety‑conscious engineer with excellent organizational and problem‑solving skills. The position demands on‑site presence to effectively manage project execution and collaborate with diverse teams and contractors. Your contribution will be vital to the successful delivery of critical infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

Manage and execute mechanical engineering tasks for assigned projects, from site preparation to final commissioning. Supervise installation, alignment, and testing of mechanical equipment, including pumps, compressors, conveyors, and heavy machinery. Ensure all work complies with project design specifications, engineering standards, and safety regulations (e.g., OHS Act). Coordinate with site personnel, contractors, and suppliers to ensure efficient project progress. Monitor site activities, identify potential issues, and implement timely corrective actions. Participate in site inspections, progress meetings, and safety audits. Manage project documentation, including as‑built drawings, test reports, and completion certificates. Assist in the development and execution of commissioning plans and procedures. Support the maintenance team with technical expertise for mechanical systems. Contribute to project close‑out activities and lessons learned documentation.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Minimum of 4 years of experience in mechanical engineering project execution, preferably in the mining, industrial, or construction sectors. Strong understanding of mechanical systems, rotating equipment, and heavy machinery. Knowledge of project management principles and site execution strategies. Familiarity with relevant engineering codes, standards, and safety legislation. Proven ability to manage on‑site activities and coordinate with diverse teams. Excellent problem‑solving and decision‑making skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in relevant software, including MS Office and basic CAD viewers. Ability to work effectively in a demanding site environment. Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) or ECSA registration is an advantage.
