Job summary

Avis Budget Group is hiring a qualified Mechanic to join our Queenstown team on a full-time basis. You will service and maintain our fleet, perform diagnostics, and support the workshop with a range of motor vehicle repairs in a busy rental operation.

We offer rostered shifts and competitive hourly rates of NZ$38–40 with uniforms, parking, employee discounts, and wellbeing benefits. This role requires a Level 4 motor mechanics qualification and a proactive, safety‑mocused approach.

Qualifications

• Full drivers’ license (including manual vehicles).
• Trade qualification in Motor Mechanics (Level 4) with previous experience working as a motor mechanic (working experience within the car rental industry would be advantageous).
• Experience with both petrol and diesel motors.
• A customer-focused, collaborative, and adaptable approach to work each day.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks across multiple sites with a high level of attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
• Good communications skills (written and verbal) with knowledge of MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook
• Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety legislation relevant to the role.

Responsibilities

• Servicing vehicles to manufacturers’ specifications and company standards, including carrying out minor repairs and preventative maintenance checks on fleet vehicles (e.g. replacing fluids, changing oil/air filter, tyres, brakes, fitting ski racks etc.) including cars, trucks and company fleet.
• Monitor inventory and request the order of new parts from Service Administrator Assemble mechanical components according to specifications.
• Perform diagnostic tests to determine functionality problems.
• Provide assistance to Trade Assistant when required.
• Complete Repair Orders
• Providing breakdown assistance when necessary
• Preparing vehicles for hand back and sales.
• Testing and general servicing of workshop equipment for safety.
• Keeping accurate and on-time job records and recording servicing history in applicable systems
• Conducting work in a safe manner, complying with Occupational Safety, Health & Environmental policies, procedures and being familiar with emergency evacuation procedures to eliminate or minimise workplace health and safety risks.
• Adhering to Company Quality Assurance and Uniform Guidelines.
• Attend company/manufacturer training as necessary.
• Working efficiently and effectively in a team environment to maintain a culture of service excellence and accomplishing organisational goals under limited supervision.
• Driving vehicles as required.
• Other reasonable duties as requested by the Service Manager.

What we’re looking for

_ We work on a roster basis and are looking to fill the following shift: _

Tuesday: 8 am - 4.30 pm

Wednesday: 8 am - 4.30 pm

Thursday: 8 am - 4.30 pm

Friday: 8 am - 4.30 pm

Saturday: 7 am - 3.30 pm
