Job summary

Avis Budget Group is seeking a qualified Mechanic for a full-time role based at Christchurch Airport. You will service and repair fleet vehicles, perform diagnostics, and ensure compliance with safety and company standards.

The role requires a motor mechanics qualification, a full driving license (manual), and experience with petrol and diesel engines. 40-hour weeks with a 4-day shift pattern at Christchurch Airport location.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification in Motor Mechanics (NZ Level 4 minimum) is required.
• Experience with petrol and diesel engines is preferred.
• Strong communication and team collaboration skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Service vehicles according to manufacturer specs and company standards, including minor repairs and routine maintenance.
• Assemble mechanical components according to specifications and monitor parts inventory.
• Run diagnostic tests to identify functionality issues and document results.
• Assist colleagues and provide support across the workshop as needed.

Job description

We are looking for a qualified Mechanic to join our team working full-time (40-hours per week) based at Christchurch Airport!

Our fleet of vehicles is any Mechanic’s dream job with a vast range needing your skills, experience, and expertise. As a Mechanic at Avis Budget Group, you will be handling the repairs and maintenance on our vehicles in a timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner.

• Full Time, permanent role – working 40-hours per week
• 4 x 10 hour shifts - working Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday each week (shift / full hours below)
• Christchurch Airport based with free staff parking

About The Role

What You’ll Do

• Servicing vehicles in line with manufacturers’ specifications and company standards, including carrying out minor repairs and preventative maintenance checks on fleet vehicles (e.g. replacing fluids, changing oil/air filter, tyres, brakes, fitting ski racks etc.) including cars, trucks and company fleet.
• Monitor inventory and request the order of new parts from Service Administrator Assemble mechanical components according to specifications.
• Perform diagnostic tests to determine functionality problems.
• Provide assistance to colleagues when required.
• Complete Repair Orders and provide breakdown assistance when necessary
• Preparing vehicles for hand back and sales.
• Testing and general servicing of workshop equipment for safety.
• Keeping accurate and on-time job records and recording servicing history in applicable systems
• Conducting work in a safe manner, complying with Occupational Safety, Health & Environmental policies, procedures and being familiar with emergency evacuation procedures to eliminate or minimise workplace health and safety risks. This includes the reporting of all accidents, near accidents and hazards.

What We’re Looking For

• Full drivers’ license (including manual vehicles)
• Trade qualification in Motor Mechanics (Level 4 minimum) with previous experience working as a motor mechanic (working experience within the car rental industry would be advantageous).
• Experience with both petrol and diesel motors.
• This is a Full-Time position and requires successful applicants to being able to work 40 hours per week, due to the nature of the role we are unable to accept Student Visa or WHV holders - and we do not offer Sponsorship.
• A customer-focused, collaborative, and adaptable approach to work each day.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks across multiple sites with a high level of attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
• Good communications skills (written and verbal) with knowledge of MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook
• Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety legislation relevant to the role.

• Wednesday: 12.00 – 22.30
• Saturday : 7.30 – 18.00
• Sunday: 7.30 – 18.00
