Job summary

Whakaata Māori is seeking a Communications and Engagement Advisor to support the Head of Communications and Engagement in delivering high-quality internal and external communications across the organisation. The role focuses on clear messaging that strengthens Whakaata Māori’s influence and connects with key stakeholders and audiences in line with kaupapa Māori values.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in communications, media or related field.
  • 3+ years’ experience in media production.
  • 3+ years’ experience in event and project management.
  • Experience working in a kaupapa Māori organisation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver the annual calendar of internal communications activity.
  • Provide advice on integrated communications to support business objectives.
  • Contribute to internal and external communications programmes and initiatives.
  • Manage the Whakaata Māori asset library and content for internal screens.
  • Establish and support regular cross‑ranga communications forums.
  • Develop high‑quality briefings, speeches, presentations, and publications.
  • Manage the corporate website and ensure information is current and appropriate.
  • Lead responses to Official Information Act requests and official correspondence.
  • Manage the corporate email inbox, ensuring timely acknowledgements and responses.
  • Lead and coordinate corporate reporting, including the Statement of Intent and Annual Report.
  • Sustain and strengthen relationships with stakeholders and partners.
  • Support activations, events, and community engagements that promote Whakaata Māori.
  • Plan and deliver high‑quality events that uphold kaupapa Māori values and manaakitanga.
