Job summary

Remote is hiring a Manager, Payroll Operations to lead a global payroll function and a distributed team across regions. You will own payroll processing, ensure compliance, and manage relationships with providers and stakeholders.

The role requires extensive AU/NZ payroll experience, strong leadership, and fluency in English within an asynchronous, remote-first environment. Compensation reflects global operations and location-agnostic work.

  • Extensive regional/global payroll ops experience, esp. Australia/New Zealand.
  • Understanding of global payroll best practices.
  • Experience with multiple country payroll implementations and third-party payroll providers.
  • People management with a collaborative leadership style.
  • Proficient in SAP and Excel/Google Sheets.
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving ability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor the Payroll Operations team.
  • Own end-to-end payroll processing to ensure timeliness, accuracy and compliance.
  • Act as primary liaison between internal/external payroll stakeholders.
  • Stay updated on international payroll laws/regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate and country regulations.
  • Manage relationships with payroll, accounting and service providers.
  • Develop KPIs and SLAs to drive team performance.

This is an exciting time to join Remote and make a personal difference in the global employment space as a Manager, Payroll Operations, joining our Global Payroll Operations team. As a dynamic and energetic professional, the Manager, Payroll Operations will own the planning, and implementation of our Payroll chapter.

What You Bring
  • Extensive experience in regional / global payroll operations specifically in Australia/ New Zealand
  • Understanding of global payroll best practices.
  • Experience in implementing payroll in multiple countries and in managing relationships with third party payroll services.
  • You are passionate about managing people, and you don't micromanage your reports.
  • Proficient in using software tools like SAP, Excel / Google Sheet.
  • An analytical mindset with great problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, international work environment with a passion for making an impact.
  • Is a productivity geek and will constantly think of ways to improve and speed up their work.
  • You understand the need and ideal to work largely asynchronously.
  • It's not required to have experience working remotely, but is considered a plus.
  • You write and speak fluent English.
Key Responsibilities
  • The Payroll team will report to you and you will provide them with guidance and mentorship.
    • The Manager, Payroll Operations will own the complete payroll function, ensuring payroll is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with country specific government regulations.
  • Serve as a point of contact between internal and external stakeholders on all payroll related matters.
  • Lead the Payroll team, unblock and support them.
  • Be up to date with various international payroll laws / regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with all corporate and country-specific regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Manages existing relationships with payroll, accounting and payroll service providers.
  • Develop and implement best practices, key performance indicators and SLA metrics for the team.

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location, and our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay for the successful candidate in this role is dependent upon many factors such as location, transferable or job-related skills, work experience, relevant training, business needs, and market demands. The base salary range may be subject to change.

At Remote, we foster internal mobility as a key element of our culture of employee growth and development, supported by a compensation philosophy that guarantees pay equity and fairness. Therefore, all compensation changes associated with an internal move will be reviewed by the Total Rewards & People Enablement team on a case by case basis.

The annual salary range for this full-time position is $45,000—$104,650 USD
