Job summary

New Zealand Government would like to appoint a Manager, Financial Advice to lead a team responsible for supervising licensed Financial Advice Providers (FAPs). This is a high-visibility leadership role, combining people leadership, strategic thinking and regulatory oversight.

You will guide the team's supervision activities, identify emerging risks and trends, and help shape the FMA's approach to promoting good conduct and better outcomes for consumers.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading and developing high-performing teams.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking capability.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity, apply sound judgement and make decisions in complex environments.
• Excellent communication, relationship-building and influencing skills.
• Knowledge of the financial advice sector advantageous but not essential.

Join us as Manager, Financial Advice, where you'll lead a team responsible for supervising and monitoring New Zealand's licensed Financial Advice Providers (FAPs). This is a highly visible leadership role, combining people leadership, strategic thinking and regulatory oversight.

You'll guide the team's supervision activities, identify emerging risks and trends, and help shape the FMA's approach to promoting good conduct and better outcomes for consumers.

You'll also play an important role in building strong industry relationships, engaging with market participants, and working across the FMA to deliver coordinated regulatory outcomes.

Your mahi will include, but not be limited to:

• Identifying and responding to emerging risks and harms across the sector.

We're looking for an experienced people leader who brings strong judgement, a collaborative approach, and the ability to navigate complex issues with confidence. You'll likely have experience in financial services, regulation, risk, or a related field. Most importantly, you'll be comfortable leading teams, building relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, and translating complex information into practical outcomes.

You'll also bring:
