Job summary

Thompson's Horticulture Ltd (THL) in Gisborne is seeking a practical Machinery Service & Maintenance Worker to service, maintain and repair a diverse fleet of vehicles, tractors and horticultural machinery supporting our orchard operations. This hands-on role emphasizes quality workmanship and problem-solving.

You will complete scheduled servicing, oil changes, diagnostics and running repairs, respond to breakdowns, and keep accurate service records while upholding safety.

Qualifications

• A mechanical or automotive trade qualification, or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven experience servicing and repairing vehicles and/or machinery.
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
• A full driver's licence.
• The ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively.
• Good communication and record-keeping skills.
• A positive, can-do attitude and strong work ethic.

Responsibilities

• Completing scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance across our fleet
• Carrying out oil changes, filter replacements, greasing and other routine maintenance
• Diagnosing faults and undertaking running repairs on vehicles and machinery
• Responding to breakdowns and urgent repair requirements
• Completing WOF-related repairs
• Maintaining accurate service and maintenance records
• Keeping the workshop clean, organised and operating safely
• Supporting a strong health and safety culture across the business

This is a hands‑on role responsible for servicing, maintaining and repairing a diverse fleet of vehicles, tractors and horticultural machinery that supports our orchard operations. About the Role
