The Library Experience Representative is a permanent part-time opportunity, working 32 hours per week. This is a varied, people-focused role within our Community and Library Services team.

About the role - think we are just about books? Think again!

Libraries are vibrant community hubs, connecting people with information, opportunities, technology and each other. In this role, you’ll help people access a wide range of services and support, from explaining digitisation and creating RealMe accounts, to delivering programmes, completing rates rebate applications, greeting tourists and fostering a love of reading.

You’ll be responsible for:

Delivering Council and AA services, including AA and NZTA transactions (training provided)

Providing excellent customer service and creating a welcoming experience for library visitors

Taking an active role in daily library operations and supporting the smooth running of the service

Supporting the development and delivery of programmes that respond to community needs

Helping customers confidently use information resources, technology and devices

About you

To be successful in this role, you’ll be a confident all-rounder with strong computer and written skills, and the ability to relate well to people of all ages, backgrounds and cultures. You’ll be comfortable balancing different priorities in a busy, varied environment, and will understand the important role libraries play in supporting the wellbeing, connection and participation of our community.

You may have experience in a library, customer service, community, education or tourism environment. What matters most is your ability to work well with people, adapt to different situations, provide practical support and use your skills to make a positive difference for customers and the wider Central Hawke’s Bay community.

You’ll bring:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Flexibility and a collaborative approach across all aspects of your mahi

Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills

Confidence using technology and supporting others to use it

Knowledge and understanding of Te Ao Māori, or a willingness to learn

A practical, innovative approach and the ability to think outside the square

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, values community connection and wants to use their skills in a role that has a direct and meaningful impact in Central Hawke’s Bay. If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.
