About the Role

Our client, a well-established entity in the (Industry Name - e.g., Healthcare, Education, Services) sector, is seeking a versatile and proactive Legal Counsel to support their operations in Queenstown, Eastern Cape . This role will provide broad legal support across various commercial activities, ensuring the company operates within legal and regulatory boundaries. The ideal candidate will have a solid grounding in general commercial law, contract management, and dispute resolution. You will be instrumental in advising internal stakeholders, reviewing agreements, and managing legal risks associated with day-to-day business operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements, including service contracts, supplier agreements, and partnership deals.
• Provide legal advice and guidance to business units on commercial matters, operational issues, and risk mitigation.
• Assist in managing and resolving legal disputes, claims, and potential litigation, liaising with external counsel when necessary.
• Ensure compliance with applicable South African laws and regulations, including consumer protection and industry-specific requirements.
• Conduct legal research on relevant issues and provide clear, concise advice to non-legal stakeholders.
• Support the development and implementation of internal policies and procedures to enhance legal compliance.

Requirements

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa with 3-5 years of relevant post-qualification experience in general commercial law.
• Demonstrated experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
• Good understanding of South African corporate and commercial law principles.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, collaborating with team members both in the office and remotely.
• Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
