Job summary

Wellington East Girls' College is seeking an experienced leader to head the Learning Languages Area. The role supports by the Senior Leadership Team and other Area Leads to design teaching and learning programmes using best practice.

The successful candidate will have curriculum leadership experience, be committed to collaborative innovative practices, and possess knowledge of the NZ Curriculum and NCEA. They will monitor programme performance to ensure optimal student outcomes.

Wellington East Girls’ College is seeking an experienced leader to lead our Learning Languages Area. In this role, you will be supported by the Senior Leadership Team and other Learning Area Leads to use pedagogical best practice to design and implement teaching and learning programmes.

The successful candidate will have experience in curriculum leadership, show commitment to collaborative innovative practices, and have knowledge of the NZ Curriculum and NCEA. They will have the ability to track and monitor the performance of their programmes so the best outcomes for students are achieved, enrich the curriculum with their knowledge and experience, and be dedicated to fostering success in every student.

In our Languages Learning Area, we currently offer courses in Chinese, French, Samoan, and Spanish. The Learning Area Lead role also supports English Language Learning and programme resourcing. We welcome applicants who can teach one or more of these languages - please state your specialism in your application.

The Languages Learning Area is a collaborative group of educators. With compulsory full-year languages at Years 9 and 10, and senior courses (Years 11–13) being popular with strong numbers across the learning area, WEGC has a strong commitment to language learning. It is a well-resourced learning area with a focus on high-impact teaching practices and bringing language and cultural experiences to life through workshops, trips, and overseas experiences.
