Job summary

Tradestaff New Zealand is seeking an experienced Surfacing Foreman to lead and coordinate asphalt and road surfacing operations across Hamilton and the wider Waikato. You will organise daily activities, manage labour, plant and materials, and ensure work meets plans and quality standards.

Excellent communication and leadership skills are essential, with a strong focus on health and safety. A Full Class 1 licence is required, and additional licences are advantageous for broader site

Qualifications

• Proven experience in asphalt, road surfacing or pavement construction.
• Previous experience leading or supervising a surfacing crew.
• Strong understanding of asphalt laying and compaction processes.
• Confident coordinating people, plant and materials.
• Ability to read and understand plans and job specifications.
• Good communication and leadership skills.
• Strong focus on health and safety.
• Full Class 1 driver licence.
• WTR and additional licence classes would be advantageous.
• Reliable, practical and comfortable working in a hands-on environment.
• Able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.

Responsibilities

• Leading and coordinating asphalt and surfacing crews on site.
• Organising daily work activities, labour, plant and materials.
• Overseeing asphalt laying, paving and road surfacing operations.
• Ensuring work is completed to plans, specifications and quality requirements.
• Coordinating trucks, paving equipment, rollers and other plant.
• Monitoring levels, depths, compaction and finished surface quality.
• Completing pre-starts, toolbox talks and site documentation.
• Maintaining strong health and safety standards across the crew.
• Liaising with supervisors, project managers, subcontractors and other site teams.
• Keeping jobs moving efficiently and dealing with day-to-day site issues.
• Getting hands-on and supporting the crew when required.
