Job summary

BuildRight Construction AU in Auckland, New Zealand, is seeking an experienced Chef to join our growing hospitality team and bring proven culinary expertise to menu excellence and guest satisfaction.

You will lead kitchen operations, maintain high standards of food safety, train junior staff, and contribute ideas for seasonal menus while managing costs. Sponsorship support is available for the right candidate with AEWV sponsorship for visa.

Qualifications

• Qualified chef with formal culinary training or recognised hospitality certification.
• 3-5 years of professional restaurant or kitchen experience.
• Ability to prepare a variety of cuisines and cooking styles.
• Strong knowledge of food safety and kitchen hygiene requirements.
• Experience leading or supporting a kitchen team in a busy hospitality environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver high-quality dishes following established recipes and presentation standards.
• Oversee daily kitchen operations and ensure smooth service delivery.
• Manage food preparation processes, ingredients ordering and stock rotation.
• Maintain strong food safety, hygiene and workplace compliance standards.
• Train and guide junior kitchen team members to improve performance.
• Review food quality, portion control and consistency before service.
• Monitor kitchen costs and assist with efficient resource management.
• Collaborate with the wider hospitality team to enhance customer dining experiences.
• Contribute ideas for menu improvements, seasonal specials and new food concepts.
• Maintain a clean, organised and professional kitchen environment.
• Ensure kitchen equipment is maintained and operational at all times.
• Demonstrate leadership, reliability and commitment to culinary excellence.
