Job summary

Napier City Council is seeking a Plumbing and Drainage Inspections Lead to join the Building Consents team in Napier, NZ. This hands-on role focuses on plumbing and drainage inspections, providing expert advice and guiding the team to ensure quality outcomes and a positive customer experience.

Responsibilities include issuing certificates, supporting statutory requirements, and sharing knowledge across the team.

Qualifications

• Qualification meeting Regulation 18 or a relevant trade qualification.
• 910 years of practical construction industry experience.
• Broad understanding of the Building Act and NZ Building Code.
• Ability to share technical knowledge and guide colleagues.
• Good organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
• Clear written communication and accurate record-keeping.
• Current drivers licence.

Responsibilities

• Undertaking plumbing and drainage inspections to ensure work complies with the NZ Building Code.
• Providing specialist technical advice on plumbing and drainage matters.
• Sharing knowledge with Building Consents Officers when required.
• Issuing code compliance certificates, certificates for public use and certificates of acceptance.
• Supporting Council to meet Building Act and accreditation standards.
• Maintaining knowledge of relevant legislation, standards and industry practice.
• Building positive relationships with customers and internal teams.
• Assisting with swimming pool inspections, BWOF audits and complaint investigations.
