Job summary

Selwyn District Council is seeking a Council Landscape Development Advisor to support the design and construction of open spaces to meet standards and legislative requirements. The role includes on-site inspections, reviewing landscaping plans, and providing technical guidance to developers and staff.

About the role

There is no such thing as a typical day in the life of a Council Landscape Development Advisor. Some days are spent out on site carrying out hold-point inspections and stakeholder meetings. Other days are spent in the office assessing resource consent applications, reviewing landscaping plans, and providing technical advice on proposed developments.

Other days are spent in the office assessing resource consent applications, reviewing landscaping plans, and providing technical advice on proposed developments.

The key responsibility of this role is to ensure that all works undertaken, and all assets being vested to Council, meet Council's expectations, adopted standards, and relevant legislative requirements.

The Landscape Development Advisor is responsible for ensuring that the open space components of development projects are designed and constructed to the required standards. We do this by:

• Reviewing resource consent applications and landscape plans.
• Providing technical advice and guidance to developers, consultants, and Council staff.
• Assessing proposed open space assets against Council standards and specifications.
• Undertaking site inspections and hold-point inspections throughout the construction process.
• Monitoring the quality of construction works and ensuring compliance with approved plans before assets are vested to Council.
• Supporting the delivery of safe, functional, sustainable, and attractive open spaces for current and future communities.

The successful applicant will ideally meet most of the following criteria

• Experience preparing and assessing landscape designs and reports.

• Excellent relationship management skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including consultants, developers, customers, contractors, and internal teams.
• Experience in landscape design and/or construction, ideally involving public parks and reserves, streetscapes, and stormwater management areas.
• Experience working with resource consent processes.
