Job summary

ALS, a leading dairy analysis provider in Hamilton, is seeking a Laboratory Technician to support the Dairy team on a 1-year parental leave cover. The role is full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, on-site.

You will prepare and dispatch samples, calibrate equipment, and uphold a clean, safe lab environment. The ideal candidate will have a science qualification or lab certificate, strong communication and organizational skills, and a commitment to quality, safety and client service.

Qualifications

About the Position: The Food Division operates a modern laboratory in Hamilton that is equipped with the latest in analytical technology. They’re seeking a Laboratory Technician to support the Dairy team in a 1-year parental leave cover. This hands‑on role includes preparing and dispatching samples, maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment, and ensuring a clean, safe work environment.

Ideally, you’ll have a science qualification or lab certificate, strong communication and organizational skills, and a commitment to quality, safety, and client service. Experience in a high-throughput lab environment is preferred.

This is a 1 year fixed‑term position; Monday to Friday 8AM to 4:30PM.

The Day to Day

The successful applicants will undertake a range of duties including the following:

• Weighing, preparing and extracting Dairy sample for analysis
• Preparation of calibration standards and reagents
• Ability to continually learn and improve processes
• Maintain quality and data integrity within the laboratory
• Ensuring client turnaround times are met
• Ensuring the laboratory operates in an efficient and safe manner

The Essentials

The successful candidate will possess the following skills and abilities:

• Minimum of a laboratory certificate or qualification in science
• Good chemical knowledge
• An understanding of safety precautions necessary while working with samples of unknown hazard
