Job summary

Mercure Queenstown Resort is seeking a Kitchen Hand to support a fast‑paced kitchen. You will clean and organise kitchen areas, assist chefs, and ensure hygienic handling of equipment and waste management. The role requires teamwork, reliability, and a strong work ethic in a dynamic hotel environment.

Qualifications

• A strong work ethic and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced kitchen environment.
• Great teamwork and communication skills to support the kitchen brigade.
• Attention to detail, ensuring all kitchen areas and equipment are spotless.
• Basic knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices will be advantageous.
• Good time management and ability to work efficiently under pressure.
• Ability to work 5 days per week on a rotating 7 day roster, including after hours, weekends and public holidays.

Responsibilities

• Actions cleaning duties within the kitchen, food preparation areas and scullery.
• Ensure that kitchens and equipment are kept clean and tidy according to current Health and Hygiene regulations.
• Ensure all operating equipment, crockery, cutlery & glassware is hygienically cleaned and safely stored.
• Ensure the correct handling of chemicals and equipment as per manufacturer’s instructions.
• Ensure waste is removed from kitchens on a regular basis and that it is recycled appropriately.
• Assist in the preparation of food as directed by the Executive Chef or supervisory team.
• Actively support and participate in safe work practices following health and safety, and environment policies and procedures in the workplace.
