Job summary

Presbyterian Support Central (PSC) is hiring a Kitchen Hand for Coombrae Home in Feilding Township. You will assist in preparing and serving tasty, nutritious meals for lunch and dinner and support the Food Services Team Leader in daily tasks.

The role is part-time, 24.5 hours per fortnight, with shifts from 4pm to 7:30pm on a rotating schedule. PSC offers a values-based, supportive team and training to ensure quality care for residents.

Qualifications

• Kitchen experience preferred.
• Good communication and a person-centred approach are essential.
• Food safety/hygiene certificate preferred; training available if needed.
• Must have a full driving licence and be able to drive a manual vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Food Services Team Leader to prepare and serve meals for lunch and dinner.
• Prepare morning and afternoon tea and daily meals.
• Clear tables after residents finish eating.
• Maintain daily food and fridge temperature checks and comply with hygiene protocols.
• Be considerate of residents during mealtimes and meet their needs appropriately.

Mō te tūranga - About the role

As a Kitchen hand, you will be responsible for assisting the Food Services Team Leader to prepare and serve tasty and nutritious meals for lunch and dinner. Confidence in the kitchen with meal preparation is important along with the following:

• Preparemorning and afternoon tea, as well as daily meals
• Clear tables when all residents have finished eating
• Ensure meals are served at the appropriate size and temperature
• Maintain daily food and fridge temperature checks
• Operate within food hygiene standards and protocols
• Be considerate of residents during mealtimes and ensure their needs are met appropriately

As there will be a requirement to carry out meal preparation, some flexibility regarding daily duties will be expected to meet the needs of the kitchen.

This is a part time role working 24.5 hours per fortnight. Hours for this role are working 4pm to 7.30pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday one week and Monday, Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday the following week. There is a possibility of additional hours at times to cover leave and so flexibility and willingness to help at these times is always appreciated!

As well as a passion for the wellbeing of our elders, you will be enthusiastic but patient and well organised with great interpersonal skills. You will share our values of empathy, compassion, and respect. You will also have:

• Experience working in a kitchen (preferred)
• Good communication skills and have a person-centred approach
• If you hold a food safety/hygiene certificate, that would be great but if you don't have one we can train you in what you need to know
• Enjoy being able to contribute to the work of your team and how this impacts theexperiences of our residents
• Must have a full driving licence and be able to drive a manual
