Job summary

Te Mata Kāhui (TMK) is the Kaupapa Māori Service of Te Taiope Huringanui - Turning Point Trust, delivering culturally embedded mental health, addiction, and disability support for Tangata Whaiora and Tangata Whaikaha across Tauranga Moana and the Western Bay of Plenty. We are seeking a passionate, culturally grounded Kaitūruki to join our TMK whānau, using lived experience to support others on their recovery journey.

Hours: 24 hrs/week — Mon–Wed and Fri, 9am–3pm.

Qualifications

• Essential: Lived experience of mental health, addiction, or disability recovery.
• Essential: Knowledge of tikanga and Te Ao Māori values.
• Essential: Experience in cultural performance or movement-based activity.
• Essential: A commitment to mana-enhancing, whānau-centred practice.
• Desired: Knowledge of Te Reo Māori.
• Desired: Familiarity with mental health, addiction, and disability sector standards.

Responsibilities

• Build genuine, mana-enhancing relationships with Tangata Whaiora and Tangata Whaikaha.
• Facilitate cultural and movement-based sessions within the TMK programme schedule.
• Uphold daily karakia, mihimihi, waiata, and tikanga Māori as part of the TMK kaupapa.
• Maintain accurate records in RecordBase.
• Work collaboratively with the Pouwhakahaere, Kaiārahi, and Kaiwhakarite.

We are seeking a passionate, culturally grounded Kaitūruki to join our TMK whānau. This is a chance for someone with lived experience of mental health, addiction, or disability recovery to use that experience as a taong, supporting others to find their own path forward. You will deliver peer support, facilitate cultural and movement-based activities, and support creative arts programmes that strengthen identity, wellbeing, and connection.
