Job summary

TFE Hotels Group is seeking Sou Chefs/Junior Sou Chefs to join our Otago kitchen team. You will support the Executive/Head Chef in leading and developing the team to deliver high-quality dishes, while maintaining consistency and cost control.

The role is full-time, permanent, with an hourly wage of $30-$37.50 per hour, and requires flexibility for early/late shifts, weekends and public holidays in Otago.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years in a comparable role or Chef De Partie level.
• Diploma plus 1+ year relevant experience acceptable.
• Shifts may include early/late; weekends/public holidays required.
• Ability to stand, walk and lift up to 20 kg.

Responsibilities

• Maintain presentation standards aligned with market trends.
• Prepare and cook orders with urgency while upholding quality and presentation.
• Liaise with F&B team on menu items and changes.
• Assist Executive/Head Chef with menu prep and stock readiness.
• Encourage and coach kitchen staff to bring creative flair and Go MAD philosophy.
• Resolve guest complaints with the senior F&B team.
• Supervise kitchen in absence of Executive/Head/Head Chef.
• Mentor cooks with best-practice techniques.
• Maintain hygiene and kitchen safety per regulations.
• Manage stock: ordering, stocktake, rotation.
• Assist in costings and pricing for menus.
• Rostering and labour cost management.
