Job summary

Westport Deep Sea Fishing School in Auckland is seeking a skilled Sheet Metal Trade Worker to join our team. You'll read technical drawings, cut, shape and weld sheet metals to high standards for commercial and industrial projects.

The role requires experience with TIG/MIG welding, reading shop drawings, and safe workshop practices. Competitive hourly rates apply with 30–60 hours per week and steady weekly pay.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience or relevant qualifications.
• Strong proficiency in TIG/MIG welding light metals and operating press brakes/guillotines.
• Ability to read and work accurately from technical shop drawings.
• Physically fit, detail-oriented, and committed to high quality and workshop safety standards.
• Competitive hourly rates ($28 – $35/hr dependent on experience)
• Minimum of 30 hours guaranteed per week (permanent full-time), maximum of 60 hours per week

Responsibilities

• Reading blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine job, material and equipment requirements.
• Selecting metal stock, such as stainless steel, galvanised iron, mild steel, aluminium and copper, and checking sizes, gauges and other dimensions of metal stock against specifications.
• Marking out metal stock with reference points and lines, using templates, gauges and other measuring instruments.
• Cutting metal stock along guidelines using hand and power shears, guillotines and drills.
• Shaping and forming cut metal stock into products using folding and bending machines, rollers, presses and hammers.
• Fitting and assembling components into final products by welding, riveting, soldering, brazing and otherwise joining.
• Finishing products by polishing, filing, sanding and cleaning assembled products.
• May repair damaged Sheetmetal products and components.
• May specialise in fabrication, or on-site assembly and installation, of Sheetmetal products.
• May produce aircraft sheet metal components requiring advanced drawing and calculating skills
