Job summary

RNZ is seeking a journalist based in Wellington to cover breaking news and develop original stories for radio, current affairs and digital platforms. You will report with initiative, hit the road when needed, and rely on sources to deliver accurate, timely journalism.

You will work to tight deadlines, bring strong writing, interviewing and live broadcasting skills, and contribute to high‑quality content across radio and online channels.

Qualifications

• Superior writing, interviewing and live broadcasting skills.
• Skilled reporter with a track record in journalism.
• Experience delivering accurate, timely news across radio, TV or digital.
• Ability to meet tight deadlines and work on the road when required.
• Must have a full driver licence.

You will be ready to hit the road, relying on key contacts and sources to drive story ideas and deliver first-class journalism.

You Will

• Have superior writing, interviewing and live broadcasting skills
• Be a skilled reporter
• Have experience working as a journalist
• Bring accuracy, attention to detail, curiosity, speed, and creativity to your work
• File written, audio and visual content to tight radio and digital deadlines
• Understand the issues affecting the Wellingtonregion and the lower North Island
• Be flexible and able to commit to shift work
• Must have a full driver licence
