Job summary

Bank of New Zealand (BNZ) is seeking an Intermediate Developer for our Payments domain within BNZ Technology. The role involves hands-on work across the full delivery lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, release, and production support.

You will work with the team to understand requirements, design robust solutions, and collaborate with product owners and engineers to meet client needs and security standards.

Qualifications

• Strong experience with Java and RESTful services.
• Spring Boot framework experience.
• Automated testing, clean code, debugging, and version control understanding.
• Familiarity with Maven or Gradle build tooling.
• Experience with relational databases and SQL.
• CI/CD pipelines such as Jenkins or Spinnaker.
• Containerised applications and Kubernetes familiarity or quick learnability.
• Ability to investigate issues methodically and explain technical problems.

Responsibilities

• Break down requirements with the team and estimate work, identify risks.
• Diagnose and resolve defects and production incidents using logs and metrics.
• Contribute to design and development including API design and documentation.
• Integrate services with downstream systems, event streams, databases and providers.
• Write automated unit, integration and contract tests; contribute to test automation.
• Resolve incidents by diagnosing issues and implementing fixes.
• Participate in on-call roster and collaborate with stakeholders.
